Overkill Software is a Swedish game developer best known for the Payday series of games. The company’s founders include ex-GRIN alums Bo and Ulf Andersson. In 2012, Starbreeze, a subsidiary of Sony, acquired the upstart and made them a part of its family.
Despite its storied past, the company hasn’t exactly hit the ground running. Its most recent release, PayDay 2, had publishing support from 505 Games. They also have a few other titles in the works, including a newer iteration of their popular PayDay series. As of September 2015, the company had about a half dozen employees in their Stockholm offices. On the business side, they have received a healthy infusion of cash from the aforementioned acquisition, in the form of a 42.8 million dollar incentive package.
As of late, Overkill has remained focused on making the best possible titles for the PlayStation console. While their name isn’t emblazoned on the latest and greatest titles, they have certainly mastered the art of churning out quality content. They have been able to do this in part due to the fact that their CEO and President, Bo Andersson, is a proven gamer himself. So, if you’re on the hunt for a great game, be sure to look into the Overkill software store. Until a more permanent home is created, you can find your digits at one of the many digital game retailers online.
